I started my real estate technology journey many years earlier. I am what my son calls an early adapter. We laugh, I bought my first Apple Computer before they had any real programs. It had a game, Breakout, that was it. Then they added a space game… Hey where were the programs I would ask? Coming soon they would say. Well they arrived and we are on our merry journey.

So what about you?

Technology should increase your business, not take over instead of your business.

That applies to blogs.

So far, almost all bloggers, and for sure the blogging vendors pitch technology. They hold classes, stress SEO, and make it intimidating.

This is wrong, wrong, wrong - and we feel a major reason blogging for business is still limited and even not successful.

As we began to write our Issaquah Undressed blog, I made a claim.

BACK in 2006, which in the real estate blogo- sphere is pretty much akin to the dawn of creation, Real Estate Undressed blogger Larry Cragun had this to say to the American home-buying public:”There is a new wave growing. Agents that blog. We believe you will eventually only use an agent that blogs. Why? Because . . . if they blog about a community they must know it. . . . You also learn more about them as they blog.”

Cragun’s advice must have been heeded, since it seems that every agent and their brother now has a blog. And if anecdotal evidence is to be believed — nobody actually tracks this — agents who are still selling today are agents who blog.

Don’t be fooled by the Techie talk… it is easier than they say.

There are blog providers that want you to think their SEO whiz is what gets you to the front page of Google. Good blog technology, plus a good network, plus your steady writing on important local and real estate topics is most of the work.

If you hear a blog provider try and wow you with what they can teach you about SEO - run for the hills. You are an agent, not a techie. Become a techie - bye bye as an agent.

You may have heard that you should spend two hours a day meeting people, prospecting. OK, use the blog for that. Spend half that time writing and half that time touching people using your blog as the topic or the touch.

On the other hand it is easier than most people realize. Last night I couldn’t think of a thing to write about so I wrote a post about not having anything to write about.

The post is getting a lot of traffic. Visits to my blog are up today by about 30% and the post they are clicking on is the post about not having anything to write.

Maybe people who are reading it can relate to writers block. There are some days when writing is a huge challenge. When I have days like that I just start typing and eventually something that looks like a blog post appears.
